Emmy (The Moon Mullins Family) - Wheaties Cereal mask (1940s-50s) - cutout
This “Emmy” mask comes from the long-running Moon Mullins comic strip, which was widely syndicated in American newspapers from the 1920s through the 1950s. As part of the Moon Mullins family cast, Emmy was depicted with exaggerated cartoon features that translated perfectly into Wheaties’ playful cutout mask promotions during the 1940s–50s.
Unlike many cereal masks that featured generic characters, the Moon Mullins set tied Wheaties directly to popular culture, giving kids the chance to “become” their favorite comic personalities. Masks like this were often cut out immediately and used for play, which makes surviving examples scarce—particularly when still intact on the box panel. This example is a direct cutout from the cereal backside, retaining its vintage appeal.
Measures: 8.5 x 10 inches
Date: 1940s–1950s
Origin: Wheaties cereal backside premium
Rarity: Emmy is less common than the Wheaties staple characters, but within the Moon Mullins set she appears with moderate frequency.
