Little Orphan Annie - Ovaltine Radio Premium - Einson Freeman Co. Promotional Mask (1933)

$125.00

This rare Little Orphan Annie paper mask was issued in 1933 as a promotional tie-in for the immensely popular Ovaltine radio program, “Little Orphan Annie.” Produced by the Einson Freeman Company, a pioneer in printed advertising premiums, these masks were distributed to young listeners who joined Annie’s legendary “Secret Society” fan clubs.

Little Orphan Annie, created by Harold Gray in 1924, had by the early 1930s become a cultural juggernaut—appearing not only in newspaper comic strips but also on radio, merchandise, and advertising giveaways. Ovaltine capitalized on this popularity by offering premiums such as secret decoder badges, booklets, and masks like this one, cementing Annie’s place in Depression-era pop culture.

Printed in bright lithographed colors, this mask captures Annie’s signature curly hair and wide-eyed look, instantly recognizable to fans of the time. Given that these masks were fragile, worn by children, and often discarded, very few have survived intact, making this an especially desirable example.

Historical Significance:

Distributed as a radio premium during the peak of Annie’s broadcast success.
