Firefang (The Tiger) - Wheaties Cereal mask (1940s-50s) - backside
One of the fiercest and most eye-catching of all the Wheaties premium masks, Firefang the Tiger leaps off the cereal box with bold stripes, sharp teeth, and a growl ready to strike. Issued in the late 1940s–50s, this mask was printed on the backside of Wheaties boxes as part of the “Fun Mask” collection, where kids could cut them out, punch the holes, and become their favorite wild characters.
The design showcases the era’s classic advertising artwork—hand-drawn, brightly colored, and meant to capture the imagination at the breakfast table. Surviving examples are becoming harder to track down, especially with strong color and intact cutouts like this.
