Chimpy (The Chimpanzee) - Kelloggs Corn Flakes False Faces mask (1953) - cutout
A rare survivor from Kellogg’s 1953 “False Faces” series, this Chimpy the Chimpanzee mask was originally printed directly on the back of Corn Flakes cereal boxes. Young fans were encouraged to cut along the dotted lines, punch holes, and string it up for instant play. Few were carefully cut and kept, making authentic examples like this scarce today.
Part of a broader promotional effort by Kellogg’s to connect breakfast with fun, the “False Faces” masks included animals, circus figures, and comic-style characters. Chimpy stands out with his bellhop-style cap featuring the Kellogg’s “K” logo, glowing eyes, and mischievous grin — an unmistakable piece of 1950s cereal-box culture.
