Big Bone (The Cannibal) - Kelloggs Corn Flakes mask (1950s) - Original Store Display sign (UK)
One of the most elusive of the Kellogg’s cereal mask promotion displays, “Big Bone” (The Cannibal) was issued in the early 1950s as part of the “Free Cut-Out Mask” campaign. Unlike the more familiar Demon Dan, Witch, and Pirate/Tiger designs found in U.S. markets, this striking and controversial character was primarily issued in the UK/Commonwealth, making original store displays extraordinarily difficult to find in America.
Printed as a bold double-sided color lithograph, the sign features the grinning “Big Bone” mask with its oversized earrings and bone-through-nose design, paired with the bright Kellogg’s promotional header. These signs hung in grocery stores to promote the masks printed on cereal boxes — and most were discarded after the campaign.
