Smokey the Bear - Kelloggs Rice Krispies mask (1950s) - backside
This rare Smokey the Bear mask was printed on the backside of Kellogg’s Rice Krispies boxes during the 1950s as part of a special promotional tie-in with the U.S. Forest Service’s fire prevention campaign. Smokey, first introduced in 1944, became the nation’s most enduring symbol of wildfire prevention, with the famous slogan: “Only YOU Can Prevent Forest Fires.”
Kellogg’s partnership with Smokey was both educational and playful—bringing a serious conservation message directly to breakfast tables across America, while also giving children a colorful mask to cut out and wear.
