Sir Huckleberry Hound - Kelloggs Corn Flakes Hanna Barbara mask (1961) - complete cereal box
An exceptionally rare survivor from the golden age of Saturday morning cartoons and cereal promotions. This complete 1961 Kellogg’s Corn Flakes box features the Sir Huckleberry Hound cutout mask printed directly on the back panel.
Huckleberry Hound, created by Hanna-Barbera in 1958, quickly became one of the most recognized cartoon characters of the early TV era. By 1960, The Huckleberry Hound Show made history as the first animated program to win an Emmy Award. To capitalize on his popularity, Kellogg’s—already a sponsor of the show—launched a premium campaign in 1961 where children could cut out and wear masks of Huck and his TV pals. Each Corn Flakes box included a different mask, from Huck in various costumes to his sidekicks Pixie, Dixie, and Yogi Bear.
This example showcases “Sir Huckleberry Hound” in medieval knight’s armor, reflecting Hanna-Barbera’s playful approach to dressing Huck in different personas. The artwork is bright, charming, and instantly nostalgic. While many boxes were cut up and discarded, complete uncut examples are nearly unheard of, making this an extraordinary collectible that represents both advertising and pop-culture history.
