Mickey Mouse (Walt Disney) - Wheaties Cereal mask (1951) - backside
In 1951, Wheaties partnered with Walt Disney Studios to release a special run of cereal box cutout masks featuring the world’s most famous mouse. This “Mickey Mouse Fun Mask” was part of a set of eight Disney character masks printed on the backs of Wheaties boxes, each available to eager children for the price of a cereal purchase and a little imagination.
Mickey, already a household icon by the 1950s, was the star of the series. The design captures his classic look from the mid-century era, before later animation redesigns softened his features. These cereal premiums tied together two pillars of American culture—breakfast and Disney—and remain one of the earliest examples of cross-brand promotional licensing between a food company and Walt Disney Productions.
