Weirdwolf Werewolf- Krystal Restaurant Halloween Promotional Mask (1973) - Glow in the Dark
In the fall of 1973, the Krystal hamburger chain (Chattanooga, Tennessee) launched a Halloween giveaway that quickly became a cult favorite among kids who loved monsters and free paper premiums. Alongside Mr. Glowbones the skull, the promotion featured Mr. Weirdwolf — a wide-eyed, grinning werewolf rendered in fluorescent ink that glowed under blacklight or after being “charged” with bright light.
These masks were printed directly on cardstock and handed out with kids’ meals during October, turning a simple fast-food visit into a Halloween memory. The campaign was covered in Krystal’s own newsletter, The Krystal Gazer, which pitched the masks as a way to bring families back to stores and add some spooky fun to the season.
Most of these masks were worn, torn, and discarded — making surviving examples highly collectible today. The glow-in-the-dark feature makes Weirdwolf especially striking under the right lighting conditions.
